Sunday Potstickers at my home...

My husband was taught by his mom to make potstickers when he was a little boy.  He literally makes them from scratch, ONE BY ONE....dough & all.   I don't know how he does it, but he looks so calm & focused. They are super YUMMY.... I'll get him to post the recipe soon...

Anyone else out there know how to make potstickers?

    below: tofu & broccolini

UPDATE: Potsticker recipe from my husband, Mat.

    Mix
Traditionally put ground pork (about 2/3#) with 1.5C finely chopped napa cabbage, 1/4C scallion, 2T tamari or soy sauce, 1t sesame oil. Mix well. You can exchange the meat for any other meat or tofu or veggies, but add some oil to keep the juiciness.

    Dough
Simple unbleached flour and water combination - knead it for about 10 minutes - should be just slightly sticky and very elastic. Let it rest 10 minutes. Roll into a long tube about 1 inch thick and cut 1/2" pods. Flatten each to a very thin 3"-4" disc. Powder lightly with flour.

With each disc, put a full rounded teaspoon of meat. Pinch two opposite ends together then working from that point, pleat the dough to each end so the dumpling forms a slighly curved shape.

Heat frying pan (cast iron if you have, others work okay) on medium-high with 2-3T high-heat oil (like peanut). Place potstickers into pan - they can be close to each other - and brown the bottoms (about 5-6 mins). Put about 1C water and cover, allowing the dumplings to steam for 6-7 mins. Uncover and let water evaporate off but don't burn.

We've traditionally eaten them with a mix of tamari and a vinegar (cider, red wine or rice).

Crave Cupcakes....oh my!

Crave Cupcakes has got to be one of the most beautifully photographed cupcake sites!  I just about FELL OFF MY CHAIR when I saw it!  The smoothness of the butter cream frosting, the texture of the sprinkles, it's like I can already taste them!  It's a real shame we don't have a good home-made cupcake shop out here in Las Vegas!

Well, there is one I know of, but it's not anything like these. Crave Cupcakes is based out of Houston , Texas...too bad for me.  So, if you're in Texas & you're looking for a baked fresh daily cupcake place, this is the place to go.  Oh, & can you believe these flavors??  chocolate espresso, chocolate coconut, red velvet, gingerbread, Nutella, mint chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, pumpkin & more!

Do you have a cupcake shop in your town? If so, which one?

Food on Etsy? that's right!

Did you know you could sell food via Etsy??  I had no idea until a few months ago!  In my mind, Etsy has always been a handmade place to shop for handmade items like artwork, handbags, clothing, paper good etc. Well, apparently that's not the case.  Yesterday, I came across The Cupcake Mint,  (and I wasn't searching for food) but,  I was really impressed!

The food looks delicious & the fact that they have nice bright pictures helps a lot....SMART.  I instantly smelled frosting & could almost taste the dessert in the pics! Congrats to The Cupcake Mint for making food on Etsy successful! Below are some of the ones I'd love to try!

How about you, were you aware people could sell food on Etsy? Would you consider buying food on Etsy?

Tasty, Yummy Helvetica.....

Let's get real....I'm not much of a baker, but I DO know how to make cookies & cupcakes. However, adding some creativity to the mix just makes it all the more fun! For all of you typography fans like myself, these Helvetica cookie cutters (by Beverly Hsu) are such a neat & fun way to bake cookies. I can see these being a hit at an office gathering or even at a kid's party. Via Coolist.

Do you like typography?? Where would you use something like this??

Crown & Crumpet, delicious teas & more

I've been hoping for a trip to Crown & Crumpet ever since I visited their website! This place seems to have a nice neighborhood feel to it, which I love. The decor for this destination tearoom is right up my alley, with colorful patterns, artwork and a pretty upholstered sofa in the lounge area. When I plan my trip to SF & I'll stop by to drink some of their Fig De Blanc white tea & taste some of their delicious looking french pastries! Visit Crown & Crumpet.

Have any of you visited Crown & Crumpet? How did you like it??
