My $200 wedding dress....

This may be hard to believe but, choosing my wedding dress was the easiest part of the wedding. You see, before I got engaged, I had been dreaming of getting married. (like most girls, right?) So, I had already seen this particular dress & it was saved onto my hard drive.  Well, it was saved along with 10-13 others I liked.... Anyway, I knew with the whole ECONOMY being in shambles that it probably wasn't a good idea to SPLURGE on my dress, plus that isn't my style.

Finally, I jumped on the internet (a few months before the wedding) & took a deep breath....and clicked the 'buy now' button- (the entire dress buying decision took about 5 minutes).  I know some of you women are thinking, "OH MY GOD, how could she buy her wedding dress online without even trying it on?" The answer was simple..... I had a few months till the wedding, I wasn't going to stress out about it.

Fast forward a couple weeks and my dress arrives.....a pretty off-white, size 4.  I went to try it on.... (BIG TIP: Make sure you have absolutely no makeup or lotions on while you try on your dress) ........and the dress fit! I wanted the waist to be a bit more snug so I went to Nordstroms seamstress department. They did a miracle cutting the dress open and tightening the waist about half an inch. It's a miracle because it's NOT easy working with pleats I hear!

Now, to the good stuff....My Wedding dress is by Calvin Klein & cost me a mere $200. That's right, $200! In fact, my shoes cost more.....but that's another post. Oh, & did I mention I was wearing SPANX underneath my dress?!? I highly recommend those, they definitely do their job! All in all, I'm so happy that I decided on this gown. I got so many compliments and no one would've guessed the price! My mindset has always been,'why go broke trying to look good, if you can look gorgeous for less!'

My bouquet was wrapped in a paper towel, so the water wouldn't drip all over my dress. I didn't realize how silly it looked until after I saw these pics. However, the trick works, no water on my dress!

Ok, so what about my accessories?? My cake? My bouquet? Shoes? etc.

    To Be Continued.....

Me = Still Smiling...

I don't normally get too personal on my blog, but I wanted to write a thank you post to my guy. I have to say I'm a lucky girl....even after 11 years together, he still amazes me. He cooks amazing dinners almost everyday (he loves cooking) & on Sundays he makes blackberry pancakes for us. But on this particular Sunday (August 2nd), he did something unexpected.....HE PROPOSED. He placed a beautiful ring on my finger & now, I'm officially engaged!! Some might ask, what took so long??!?? Timing never seemed to be on our side & now it is. I am truly grateful for every smile he has brought to my face. With that I say, thank you fiance, I love you......

Tara Guerard

The lovely Abby informed me about her guest feature - Tara Guerard, over at the Style me Pretty, and I am really glad that I stopped by. I like an excerpt of Tara's statement that states, "It’s important to remember that wedding details aren’t all about grand flowers and towering ice sculptures. Those may be the first items guests see, but they aren’t what guests are drawn to. The small and thoughtful details are what are remembered and give a glimpse into the personal lives of the couple." I wholeheartedly agree. Tara is owner of Soiree event design and author of the book Southern Weddings. She has some great tips and beautiful ideas for wedding celebrations!

Looking around at beauty

I have been having fun looking at AbsoluteWedding's Flickr. Here are a few of my favorite ideas.

After loving the above ideas + photographs, I looked up the great photographers who took them. The first shot above is by LA based NextExit Photography and in their beautiful portfolio I found these wedding lovelies.

The 2nd shot above is by Austin, Texas based Stella Alesi, and she has some beauties also. Check out both of these talented photo makers.

Wedding Planning: Pick words then colors by Kim Screen

Since I've just been through the wedding planning thing I must share this one overall thought. I had several people ask, in our wedding planning days, what our "wedding colors" were - for the invitation, tables, etc. And even though I’m big on color, I really cringed at this question. It felt like such a surface place to start planning something so special. Steven and I had a realization early on. I’m big on color, yes. But above all, we're both big on words. And so instead of colors we picked words we hoped would represent our wedding. It’s like any design project: pick a concept first, then make it look good. For us, this approach just felt right.

    So, our words?
    creative
    meaningful
    intimate

And here’s a peek at what that meant for us:

from top to bottom: walking to our handmade driftwood tent structure on the beach in Tofino, BC – my favorite place!; for our centerpieces we used the Japanese glass balls my family beach combed in the 1960’s and I made all our menus and printed pieces; handmade driftwood signs - a favorite beach craft project; our tent structure sparkling at night; army blankets for when it got cold; polaroids on our driftwood poles; a view of our head table we made from a 250-year old reclaimed cedar tree.

Stewart Wedding

Crystal + Todd's wedding was absolutely beautiful, as were the bride and groom. A few alterations were made because of the pouring down rain, but I think those changes made the wedding procession even more lovely and romantic. Since I was in the wedding party, I didn't get as many photos as I would have liked, but here are a few and there are more at my Flickr.

vintage garden style

There is a lot of joyful buzz surrounding Lena Corwin's wedding shots in the Spring 06 MS Weddings magazine and well, I enjoy them too! I thought that a few of these ideas would be specifically relevant to my cousin's wedding inspiration file because her garden setting looks so similar to this.

The pacific northwest backyard is full of lots of green like this one.

This looks like Abe (her bro) playing his jams!

They took polaroids of the guests in front of these vintage patterned panels.
