Tactile

Tactile looks like an entertaining book, it discuses how graphic design is becoming more and more 3-D.

Shinzi Katoh

I am thrilled that Lara from kirin notebook introduced me to the world of Japanese design super star Shinzi Katoh. His sweet little illustrations have a vintage and playful vibe and he uses stunning color combinations. They make me feel happy! Not only can you see his work on paper, but also on bento boxes, bags, glasses etc... I am glad to identify his marvelous work with his name now.

kirinote

I just saw these over at kirinote and although it may be a little early for holiday postings, I couldn't resist sharing these clean and hip designs. I believe she lived up to her oath of avoiding tackiness and boring cliches. Yay!

Charley Harper

This brilliant book, Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life has been on my wish list for a little while. He was a phenomenal illustrator and silk screener, who recently passed away. Oh my... this book would be a lovely way to look at his beautiful creations.

Collage sisters

I've often got together with my collage sisters to cut + paste it up, making montage creations. Although {... sigh...} it has been a little while since we've last torn it up, I became re-inspired by dulci's creations, and hope to get back at it soon. Thanks for the reminder ladulcivida, - love your work!

Fairy Chandelier

This post is for Meg. We had previously discussed this chandelier, and I thought it may also be of interest to some of you. I took these shots of this stunning piece while I was in St. Thomas. At first, from a distance I thought they were little butterflies, but upon closer inspection they are little fairies. I don't remember the exact price for the piece, but it is in the movie-star budget range. These photos don't quite do it justice, it is even more intriguing in person.

Croak and Hum

Kate Quinby of Croak and Hum creates lovely illustrations. The two below are my recent favorites of her work, I enjoy her illustration stylization and the versatile Sofia Coppola doll just cracks me up, so funny.

Six feet

Although I've never got around to watching the show Six Feet Under, this opening sequence is designed brilliantly and I think it is another one that suits halloween time. It is done by Danny Yount and company at sixteentwenty.

Orange Tango

Orange tango is a Montreal based design firm that produces phenomenal packaging design. Here are some of my favorite lovelies they have designed. Look how sleek, sophisticated and fresh this La Belle Excuse olive oil packaging is. Their website is also full of fabulous and delicious imagery.

I have used a few products by Cucina and have been throughly impressed. They deliver not only something smart to look at in your kitchen, but a way to get rid of those nasty smelling garlic and onion hands. (sniff..sniff) I can smell the citrus now.

I first saw Art Home products at Cost Plus, and thought they were designed very well. I am glad I finally found the firm that created the magic, because I have been looking.

Childlike

I've never been a huge fan of the revived silhouette trend, but perhaps it because I have never seen these. Now, I may have to rethink my opinions on the matter. These are by Okamoto Kiichi, and they have such a fun childlike quality, I want to go join in the fun. Jumprope anyone? You can see these and more at Kodomo no kuni's website, it is an incredible looksy.

Kodomo no kuni

While going through some of my clipping files, I came across these little gems from a vintage Japanese children's periodical called Kodomo no kuni = Children's Land. They used full bleeds and printed vivid and bring colors on great paper especially for back in the 1930s. I am blown away by such great craftsmanship and attention to detail for great children's illustration.

Eternal Balloon

In life, I don't get saddened by too many things, but I do get disappointed when flowers die, and balloons loose their luster. Well, I have found a solution for keeping balloons flying high.  Jenny Beardshall has exquisitely created balloon wall lights and pendants out of glass. I bet they look even better up close.
